The department of Mechanical Engineering organized a one day workshop on Quantitative Aptitude for the students of Mechanical Engineering of the college.During the course of workshop, the students were given an open platform to pose their queries regarding future career prospects related to the type of quantitative aptitude based questions asked in the various prestigious competitive exams, such as GATE, GPAT, CAT, Banking and SSC etc. The students gained a knowledgeable perspective towards targeting these examinations with the right kind of preparation and training.

Expert Talk

An Expert Talk organized by AAC/DAB of ECE department in collaboration with training and placement cell. The students of all semesters of ECE department actively participated in the event. The expert, Mr. Karan Arora (Itronix Solutions Pvt. Ltd.) delivered an expert talk on “ARDUINO with IOT”. He explained the fundamental knowledge of Arduino processor & IOT to enhance the technical and practical skills of students and provided demonstration on how to program NodeMCU with Arduino IDE. They motivated the students to develop some collaborative engineering projects which should be beneficial for the nation. Moreover, this event was an initiative to enhance the technical skills of students, so that they can become employable. Such types of sessions are so much helpful to bridge the gap between academia and industries by enhancing the employability skills of the students.

WORKSHOP ON APTITUTUDE SKILLS

A workshop on “Aptitude Skills” was organized by Dy. Director T & P, Mr. Arun Dutta for CSE dept. on 17th Feb 2020 by the resource person Er. Rajiv Chauhan, Head, Career Launcher .He has a vast experience in guiding students for aptitude tests, reasoning test, etc. for making them industry ready to clear various company exams and other related exams such as Gate, UPSC, etc. Around 100 students from B. Tech CSE participated actively and learnt the basic tips of aptitude from the expert. The significance of such workshop was to inculcate a deep sense of awareness with regard to broadening their thought processes and working hard in the direction of being smart thinkers with the ability of quickness in thought.

S. Sukhbir Singh Chatha, Director Academic Affairs, said that these kinds of workshop are very much needed for the mental development of the students. Dy. Director (AA), KCL Group motivated the students to become job providers rather than job seekers. Dr. D. S. Rao, Director, LKCE appreciated the synergy and Enthusiasm of the students as well as the efforts of departments for organizing such events.

Guest lecture

Department of Civil Engineering of Lyallpur Khalsa College of Engineering organized a Guest lecture on 5/2/2020. Dr. Mahesh Patel, Assistant Prof from NIT Jalandhar was invited as the guest speaker for the day. Dr. Mahesh Patel has done his Ph.D from IIT Guwahati & Post-Doc from University of Virginia, USA).

The guest speaker discussed various topics & projects like rain water harvesting & usage of agro waste in making of concrete. The target audience was8th and 6th semester students of Civil Engineering department. Students gained great knowledge about the trending topics based on research in civil engineering now days. They came to know about various ways to adopt rain water harvesting techniques in their local areas. With this students also came to know about various agro materials that could be effectively treated and used in the manufacturing to concrete. Speaker also discussed with students about his ongoing projects. The students were motivated to take on challenging projects during their course work and he also advised the students to think beyond the theoretical knowledge. The students of CE Department actively participated during the session

PANESAR RMC Batching Plant

Department of Civil Engineering, Lyallpur Khalsa College of Engineering organized Industrial visits for the students of Civil engineering. These Industrial visits aimed to enhance the practical knowledge of the students as they are able to co-relate the theoretical studies to the practical approach. Civil 3rd semester students were taken to PANESAR RMC Batching Plant on 25- October- 2019. These visits proved to be a wonderful learning experience as it helped the students to gain better knowledge of the practical aspects of Ready Mix Concrete plant. The students at RMC plant gained deep insight into the various raw material used for concrete making, its manufacturing process and final transportation of the ready mix concrete through RMC trucks. Also the students were made familiar with the various materials testing to be conducted on sight to monitor the quality control during construction.The visit became even better learning experience with the enthusiasm and active participation of students who flooded the engineers at site with very good questions about industrial operations works, production and control issues faced at sight, quality assurance and testing, career opportunities etc. Er. R.S. Deol, Director LKCE, stated that Institute is committed to strengthen the academic learning of their students by organizing such kind of activities. S. Workshop on Overall Equipment Effectiveness

Workshop on “OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness)” was organized by Mechanical Engineering department in association with Training & placement Asst. Director LKCE Jalandhar for Mechanical Engineering & Civil Engineering Final year students. The main objective of workshop is to develop employable and result oriented, skilled candidates by conducting activity based on interactive training and workshop. The workshop was conducted from which including various tasks, activities, experimental based data collection and learning, calculations, group discussion, brain storming and group activities. The workshop was management based in order to enhance the overall efficiency, utility of machine by decreasing downtime, change overtime, setup time using lean tool SMED (single minute exchange of Die) including awareness regarding various types of wastes and how they can be reduced to decrease the lead time in industries and manufacturing cost.

Workshop on “Internet of Things”

Department of Computer Science & Engineering of Lyallpur Khalsa College of Engineering, Jalandhar organized a Skill Workshop on“Internet of Things”.
The resource persons for the seminar were Mr.Ritesh Kumar and Mr. Kamal Panchal from APTRON Solutions Private Limited, New Delhi. They discussed about sensors, microcontrollers and communication interfaces to design and build IoT devices. The workshop focussed on the industry applications of the Internet of Things, along with challenges and future opportunities. All participating students and faculty members were awarded certificates of participation.
S. Sukhbir Singh Chattha, Director Academic Affairs expressed his view that such programmes help the students in keeping abreast of the latest technological changes happening in the Industry.
Director LKCE Dr. R.S.Deol encouraged students and faculty to organise such skill based workshops as knowledge from such workshops can open vast areas of profession to the young aspirants. He lauded the efforts of the Mr. Arun Dutta,Deputy Director,Training & Placement, Dr. D.S. Learn From Google

ECE department of LKCE organized an event “LEARN from GOOGLE” on 15-02-2019. The students of all semesters of ECE department had participated in the event with great enthusiasm. The aim of this event was to provide learning skills to students for drafting Microsoft PowerPoint presentations and to build up confidence among students to enhance their presentation skills. At the end, Dr. D.S.Rao (Dean-CSE) awarded the certificates to winning teams and acknowledged the students for their efforts. Director Academic Affairs, S. Sukhbir Singh Chatha and Director (LKCE), Er. R.S Deol also appreciated the students and motivated them to work hard in their field to acquire excellence.

Workshop on Embedded Systems

Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering organized a Hands-on Workshop on 'Embedded Systems'. Er. Navneet Gill, Head, ECE shared her views related to the Innovations in Engineering. She explained that students can avail opportunities only if they are equipped with talent. The experts, Er. Ripul and Er. Jaskaran Singh from Wonder Automation Pvt. Ltd. explained the basics of Embedded Systems and provided demonstration related to Applications of Advanced Embedded Systems. This workshop explored a platform for students of ECE Department, so that they can understand various aspects like how to control the different mechanisms of using PLC Controller. Such types of sessions are so much helpful to bridge the gap between academia and industries by enhancing the employability skills of the students. The students actively participated in the event. Mr. Arun Dutta, Deputy Director (Training & Placements) and Er. Navneet Gill, Head, ECE concluded the event and presented vote of thanks to experts of Wonder Automation Pvt. Ltd. for the valuable session they delivered. Director Academic Affairs, Dr. Sukhbir Singh Chatha appreciated the efforts of Department of ECE for organizing such events.

Workshop on Personality Development Programme

To increase the campus placements in Lyallpur Khalsa College of Engineering, various activities are being organized regularly to shape up the career goals of students. At the time of job recruitment, not only knowledge in core subjects is required, but also it is prerequisite for students to be trained in aptitude, reasoning and most significantly 'soft skills'.

To cater this need, a one-day Workshop on 'Personality development program' was organized by ECE & CSE department for the final year students of B.Tech. (ECE & CSE) on 18th Oct 2018. The expert, Ms. Neetu Mahajan (Motivational Speaker) made the students aware about various tips and tricks necessary for enhancing their personality traits. Students were motivated, specifically, related to appearing in interviews and group discussions.Around 100 students actively participated in the event and benefitted from the experience and knowledge of our guest speaker.

He is an alumnus of IIT Delhi and has a vast experience in guiding students for aptitude tests, reasoning test, etc. for making them industry ready. Around 100 students from B. Tech CSE and B. Tech ECE participated actively and learnt the basic tips of aptitude from the expert.

Guest Lecture regarding Cement

A detailed guest lecture regarding CEMENT was organized at LKCE for B-Tech civil students on 22nd October 2018 by the department of civil engineering.

The session was put forward by Mr. Gautam, TTLJ Ultra Tech cement. He started the session by giving a brief introduction about the company profile.

Ultratech cement is the largest manufacturer of grey cement in India and also one of the leading cement producers globally. As discussed the company has installed capacity of 93 MTPA. Ultratech cement provides various range of products such as OPC, Portland blast furnace slag cement, PPC. Then discussion was done about what is cement, various types of cement available and most common type used in construction purpose. He also discussed about function of cement ingredients such as function of Lime (CaO), silica, alumina, calcium sulphate etc. The main focus was laid on explaining how the quantity of these ingredients vary with the varying properties. Students thoroughly enjoyed the interactive session that lasted for an hour. Students were greatly benefited by the session and were motivated enough to follow the tips and nuggets of wisdom given by the experts.

Department of Civil Engineering of Lyallpur Khalsa College of Engineering organized a Guest lecture on 21st Sep 2018. Dr. Senthil Kasilingam, Assistant Professor NIT Jalandhar was invited as the guest speaker for the day. The lecture aimed at encouraging students to look beyond their textual knowledge and establish a relationship between theoretical and live applications. The guest speaker discussed on the topic 'Advances in the analysis of Metallic and Concrete Systems-Static, Dynamic and impact loading'. He discussed about the various projects that were completed under his guidance by his students. The students were motivated to take on challenging projects during their course work and he also advised the students to think beyond the theoretical knowledge. The students of CE Department actively participated during the session. Er. Abhishek Sachdeva, HOD CE, on behalf of Department of Civil Engineering concluded the event. Er. R.S. Deol, Director LKCE graced the event by his presence and presented a token of appreciation to Dr. Senthil Kasilingam for the valuable session. Guest Lecture by Er.Harish Sharma, Project Engineer, Bauer Group (Abu Dhabi)

Guest lecture on modern techniques in piling was held on 3rd April 2017.Er Harish Sharma, project engineer Bauer group (Abu Dhabi) was the speaker.

He told students about modern techniques in piling in Arab countries and also told students about different problems engineers have to face during projects and what are the remedies used to sort out the problems. He told students about the different case studies done by him for example settlement of the pavements of Abu Dhabi airport. He awared students about the different environmental problems which engineers have to face in Arab countries .The session was very interesting .and the students got lot of practical knowledge which will be very beneficial for them in their future.

Guest Lecture by Er. Abhishek Dhal, SDO, Puda

A detailed session on Highway engineering was organized at LKCE for B-Tech civil students on 29th September 2017 by the department of civil engineering.

The session was conducted by Er. Abhishek Dhal, SDO, Puda.

This lecture was based upon highway engineering in which discussion was done regarding industrial knowledge and industrial training. Knowledge was given regarding filling work, granular sub base, sub base course, wet mix macadam, water bond macadam and concreting. Students were shown common schedule rates (CSR) which is useful in quantity surveying. To study some live examples students were shown the map of football chowk, to understand the design of drainage system that will be constructed in that area. Students were highly motivated related to competitive exams like GATE, IES and exams for JE and SDO. Some tips and tricks to clear such examinations were also discussed. Students thoroughly enjoyed the interactive session that lasted for an hour. Students were greatly benefitted by the session and were motivated enough to follow the tips and nuggets of wisdom given by the experts.

Guest Lecture by Mr. Pankaj Singla, SDO, PWD

A detailed session on geometric designing was organized at LKCE for B- Tech civil students on 3rd October2017 by the department of civil engineering.

The session was conducted by Mr. Pankaj Singla, SDO, PWD. He started the session by motivating the students for being skilled and enthusiastic. He shared his professional experiences for students and explained the responsibilities of a highway engineer while designing a road pavement. He discussed about 3D's required for the designing of road and highways. He spoke in brief about the issues related to the construction of curves, signals and drainage systems. He spoke at length on the horizontal and vertical alignment, intersection elements.

Students thoroughly enjoyed the interactive session that lasted for an hour. Students were greatly benefitted by the session and were motivated enough to follow the tips and nuggets of wisdom given by the experts.

Guest Lecture in Chemistry by Dr. N.C. Kothiyal

The Department of Applied Science of Lyallpur Khalsa College of Engineering organized a guest lecture in chemistry by Dr. N.C Kothiyal, Professor, NIT Jalandhar. Dr. N.C Kothiyal delivered his lecture on the topic 'Improvements of composite materials with carbon based nano-materials'. Students were made aware on the role of carbon based nano materials in cementing materials.
